Essentially an abandoned and overlooked gem of a structure, this 1885 red brick former railway roundhouse and machine repair shop is about to be given new life. It will soon be fully restored and expanded with a contemporary wing, all to house the new brewery facilities and head offices for Picaroons – one of Canada’s finest microbreweries.
Sited in Devon, alongside the Trans-Canada Trail at the confluence of the Nashwaak and St. John rivers, the building is geared to be a new hub of activity for Fredericton’s northside. It will house all Picaroons’ brewing capacity, storage facilities and offices, alongside public facilities such as a large community room, display areas, washrooms for the adjacent park, and amenities for public tours, beer tastings, and outdoor concerts.
