Just finished, the River Run House borrows from the local farm house vernacular and provides a contemporary twist to meet the needs of this 5 person family. The project’s biggest design challenge was balancing the spectacular North facing river vista with the desire for the Southern exposure. The design splits the house in two and creates a glass entry that allows the two sides to link. This split allows the Sun to heat the entry, while at the same time offering some privacy between the children and parents bedrooms. This home which exceeds R2000 standards is designed with a geothermal system, takes advantage of passive ventilation strategies and uses water reducing fixtures. Natural daylighting was maximized to reduce on energy consumption.
