IN THE OFFTERM – A COLLABORATION OF THE ACRE’S DAVE HOLBORN AND ACRE COLLECTIVE MEMBER JESSIE CROLL

In their recent study term at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture, Acre Architects Junior Designer Dave Holborn and acre collective member Jessie Croll collaborated on an intensive research and design studio focused on infrasturcture and networks in Greenland, including a weeklong expedition to the isolated ice-island.

Take a look at their final project from the term, Catch-Process-Exchange, a speculative design for a public, community driven, hunting and fishing processing infrastructure in the capital city of Nuuk Greenland.

John Leroux gives the Prince a tour of Prince William Street

John doned his historian hat on Victoria Day and gave Prince Charles a tour of Saint John’s historic Prince William Street.  John did not show off his hockey skills, as the Prince did. History first, hockey second.
On a somewhat unrelated note, Acre Architects are moving to 86 Prince William Street May 28th!

Acre Architects National Winners

ARCHITECTURE TEAM CANADA ANNOUNCED FOR VENICE BIENNALE 2012

The Migrating Landscapes jury have now selected the young, architectural ʻTeam Canadaʼ that forms Canadaʼs official entry at the 2012 Venice Biennale in Architecture (August 29 – November 25, 2012) together with the Winnipeg based Migrating Landscapes Organizer (MLO).  The Acre’s submission has been chosen to be part of ‘Team Canada’. YES!  The winners were selected by a National jury made up of Eleanor Bond, Ian Chodikoff, Anne Cormier, Bruce Kuwabara and John Patkau and were announced at the public opening gala at the WAG in Manitoba.

Thanks to the team [Stephen Kopp, Monica Adair, John Leroux, Jessie Croll and Alicia Halas of Acre Architects] for all the hard work / great dialogue in putting this project together.  And a special shout out to Hemmings House Pictures for helping us with our video submission. We are proud and humble to be part of this great group of young designers and Architects. See Mike Landry’s Salon story about the regional leg of the competition in January 28th Telegraph Journal.

GLORIOUS LIGHT BOOK LAUNCH

When Acre associate John Leroux isn’t designing, he’s writing.  John  launched his new book, Glorious Light: The Stained Glass of Fredericton on November 3rd at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton. Published by Gaspereau Press, it is filled with full colour photographs and is unique in Canada as it is the first comprehensive study of any Canadian city’s stained glass heritage. As photographer and author, John also curated and designed a corresponding exhibition at the gallery that can be viewed until January 8, 2012.

Leroux guest critic at BRAC University….in Dhaka

No, that is not a typo –  Acre Architects Associate, Architect John Leroux has been invited to be a critic tomorrow at BRAC University in Bangladesh for 5th year Architectural students!  John happens to be the provincial expert on the topic having written the book: Building New Brunswick: An Architectural History published by Goose Lane Editions, 2008.  John is in ‘town’ writing an article for Canadian Architect.
