Monica, John, Stephen & Jessie are off to Venice for the 2012 Venice Biennale.  See International Architecture & Design’s article ‘Who is Architecture For‘ or Mike Landry’s ‘Our merchants of Venice‘ in the Telegraph Journal’s Salon for a little about what we are up to next week. John doned his historian hat on Victoria Day and gave Prince Charles a tour of Saint John’s historic Prince William Street.  John did not show off his hockey skills, as the Prince did. History first, hockey second.
On a somewhat unrelated note, Acre Architects are moving to 86 Prince William Street May 28th!

The Migrating Landscapes jury have now selected the young, architectural ʻTeam Canadaʼ that forms Canadaʼs official entry at the 2012 Venice Biennale in Architecture (August 29 – November 25, 2012) together with the Winnipeg based Migrating Landscapes Organizer (MLO).  The Acre’s submission has been chosen to be part of ‘Team Canada’. YES!  The winners were selected by a National jury made up of Eleanor Bond, Ian Chodikoff, Anne Cormier, Bruce Kuwabara and John Patkau and were announced at the public opening gala at the WAG in Manitoba.

Thanks to the team [Stephen Kopp, Monica Adair, John Leroux, Jessie Croll and Alicia Halas of Acre Architects] for all the hard work / great dialogue in putting this project together.  And a special shout out to Hemmings House Pictures for helping us with our video submission. We are proud and humble to be part of this great group of young designers and Architects. See Mike Landry’s Salon story about the regional leg of the competition in January 28th Telegraph Journal.

When Acre associate John Leroux isn’t designing, he’s writing.  John  launched his new book, Glorious Light: The Stained Glass of Fredericton on November 3rd at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton. Published by Gaspereau Press, it is filled with full colour photographs and is unique in Canada as it is the first comprehensive study of any Canadian city’s stained glass heritage. As photographer and author, John also curated and designed a corresponding exhibition at the gallery that can be viewed until January 8, 2012.

After travelling to Dhaka earlier this year to view the new Canadian Embassy, Acre Associate John Leroux has written the cover storey for the July issue of Canadian Architect. Congratulations to MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects for this international build.  It’s great to see East Coast Architects’ work recognized internationally.

After two days of interviews in Miramichi last weekend, Stephen was accepted in to the Entrepreneurial Leaders Program of the Wallace McCain Institute at the University of New Brunswick (ELP4).

Ground has been broken: Exciting development for this new project in the core of the city of Saint John.  Into the Wild will spring new life into this port city as it explores the panorama of this rocky site.  The Acre is pleased to announce that The Urban Farmer will be leading the build of this project.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of our new website.  A special thank you to Sam Blue who collaborated with us on the design of our new website.  Sam worked his magic to build and script the site – thanks for your creative problem solving throughout the process.  One cannot forget good ‘ol Version 1.0 – coded by acre collective member Nicholas Desbiens.  Thanks Nick – very kuhl.

No, that is not a typo –  Acre Architects Associate, Architect John Leroux has been invited to be a critic tomorrow at BRAC University in Bangladesh for 5th year Architectural students!  John happens to be the provincial expert on the topic having written the book: Building New Brunswick: An Architectural History published by Goose Lane Editions, 2008.  John is in ‘town’ writing an article for Canadian Architect.

Acre Architects have been selected to featured in the Twenty + Change 03 exhibition and publication for 2011. Twenty + Change 03 curatorial committee was comprised of: Marc Boutin (The Marc Boutin Architectural Collaborative Inc), Renée Daoust (Daoust Lestage Inc), Miyoko Ohtake (Dwell Editor), Larry Wayne Richards ( Professor Emeritus & former Dean in the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Architecture).  Thank you to the Twenty + Change Directors Heather Dubbledam & Lola Sheppard for their hard work.

The spring issue of International Architecture & Design magazine continues to follow the design development stage of our Into The Wild house in Saint John.  Read the IAD_New Brunswick_Part 2.  Article written by Atlantic Journalism Award winner Suzanne Robicheau.

Majumder Manor is a 12 part documentary series, following the build of a 5 star boutique eco-lux inn in the tiny town of Burlington, Newfoundland Canada. The show will be airing on the W network in Canada and features Actor/Comedian Shaun Majumder.

The River Run House is situated along the Saint John River in Fredericton New Brunswick.  This family is eager to move into their new home by late summer 2011.

International Architecture & Design will be following the design and construction of our clients ‘Into The Wild’ right here in Saint John.  In the next issues, they will chronicle the design and construction process as we move from idea to built work……we hope!

Through a nomination process, 50 exceptional leaders under the age 35 from Atlantic Canada have the opportunity to take part in a larger dialogue with peers and further their skills and the know-how to help propel careers, enhance leadership abilities, and build our organizations and communities for the 21st Century.
